Aphros Phaunus Pet Nat 2021
A wine “made in silence”, hand-harvested at dawn with no electricity used at any point.
Grape Varietals & Region: 50% Loureiro and 50% Arinto, from biodynamic vineyards planted with the native Loureiro variety in Vinho Verde, Portugal, farmed with permaculture techniques that avoid any chemical products harmful to the natural balance of the terroir.
Taste Profile: Light, refreshing and pleasant, with a floral nose showing hints of lemon citrus, minerals and herbs. Fine bubbles on the palate carry vibrant acidity and persistent citrus flavours, with a gentle hint of sweetness.
Winemaking Process: Hand-harvested, with maceration on skins before pressing. The must ferments in stainless steel with native yeasts at 1416C, with fermentation concluding in bottle without added yeasts or sugars; disgorging takes place 5 months later.
Winemaker: Aphros is the project of Vasco Croft, who took over his mother’s semi-abandoned 17th-century family estate in Vinho Verde in 2003 and converted it to biodynamics, becoming one of Portugal’s pioneering biodynamic winemakers.
